About VoxBee
Independent software for people who want their voice and their words to stay on their own machine.
What we build
VoxBee is a native desktop app for macOS and Linux that turns your voice into text across three workflows: push-to-talk dictation in any app, drag-and-drop audio and video transcription, and automatic meeting recording with AI-structured summaries. The common thread: speech recognition runs on your device, not ours.
We use OpenAI’s Whisper models (via WhisperKit) and NVIDIA’s Parakeet models (via FluidAudio on the Apple Neural Engine) to keep transcription accurate and fast without shipping your audio to a cloud service.
Why we built it
Every major voice product in the last few years has become a cloud product: audio is uploaded, stored, analyzed, and often re-used to train the next generation of models. For a lot of people — lawyers, doctors, therapists, journalists, researchers, founders discussing unreleased ideas, anyone on a regulated team — that is simply not acceptable.
VoxBee exists because on-device speech recognition is now good enough to be a daily driver. Whisper and Parakeet ship on laptops people already own. There’s no reason to send audio to a server just to turn it into text.
What we stand for
- Local by default. Transcription happens on your device. Audio never leaves.
- One-time purchase. No subscriptions, no usage meters, no upsells.
- No accounts. You don’t need to create anything to use VoxBee.
- Bring your own AI keys. If you want LLM summaries, you pick the provider and you pay them directly. We never broker the connection.
- Mac and Linux, equally. Most voice apps are Mac-only. VoxBee ships on both.
Who makes it
VoxBee is built by Madhur Shrimal, an independent software developer. You can find VoxBee on Twitter/X.
How we’re funded
VoxBee is paid for by people who buy it. $39 early bird, $49 regular, one-time, two devices per license. That’s the whole business model. No enterprise tiers, no telemetry buyers, no usage selling. If you bought a license, thank you — that’s the reason this project exists.
